"Expressing Devotion at Home" -- Saturday, May 16, 2020
The Center for American Buddhist Practice / Blue Lotus Dharma Center is happy to present a class on “Expressing Devotion at Home” by Lama Ngakpa Chökyi Lodü, the Spiritual Head of the NamChok Pur ChoLing/Sky-Iron Kila Society. This class will explore some options of setting up a personal shrine at home; making offerings; the outer and inner meaning of the offerings; and correlating mudras and mantras. A great class for anyone, including beginners, who would like to learn more about joyfully making offerings. There is a suggested donation of $30. Any donation amount is greatly appreciated and will go to support Lama Chökyi Lodü and his community directly. (This class has been archived here.) Thank you for your support!
It's not too late to join the Dhammapada class! As of mid-May, we are not even half way through the text, and you can still join at any time. No previous experience with Buddhism or other spiritual practices are needed. The Dhammapada is a collection of the profound teachings of the Buddha on how to attain happiness and liberation. We will be using Thomas Cleary's translation, and we recommend getting your own copy of the book, though it is not required. All are welcome to join for one class or for the whole series. This is a great opportunity for both beginners as well as more experienced practitioners. To join, use the Zoom meeting link below. Please be sure to have your microphone muted, unless you are wanting to ask a question.

35 Buddha Ceremony & Satsang with Lama Chokyi Lodu
(This event was a great success! Thank you to those who participated in and donated to this event. We look forward to seeing you at future events!)
Date: Saturday & Sunday, February 29 & March 1 Time: 6:00 p.m. Saturday; 10:00 a.m. Sunday Location: Blue Lotus Dharma Center
On Saturday evening (February 29), Lama Chökyi will be leading us in an outdoor fire puja, followed by a potluck and satsang ("association with the Teacher"). This will be an informal evening and a wonderful chance for good association with the Teacher and sangha. Refuge vows will also be offered this evening. If you would like to take refuge please email email@example.com. Event time 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Suggested donation: $10, Flowers and/or Food.
On Sunday morning, Lama will lead us in a 35 Buddha Ceremony for karma purification. This is a powerful ceremony for the new year in which, through reciting the names of the 35 Buddhas, we receive their blessings, gaining wisdom and merit, and purifying lifetimes of karma. If you are able to do prostrations, they are a valuable part of the ceremony; they are not mandatory, however. Here is a guide to doing prostrations. Event time 10:00 - 11:30am. There will be light lunch, tea and coffee provided after the event. Suggested Donation: $35.
All are welcome to attend regardless of ability to pay. Donations of any amount are deeply appreciated and will help pay for the weekend's events, as well as our usual operational expenses like rent and upkeep. We will also be using funds to continue to beautify the temple on the inside and out.
